The campaigns
Youth Revisited, Movember
The aim
Youth Revisited wanted to promote its free PSA testing for Movember and get men of all ages taking their prostate health seriously.
The message
Early detection saves lives, so Youth Revisited is offering free PSA tests this November. Prostate cancer is not just a concern for over-50s, and every man should take his health seriously.
The angle
For Movember, Youth Revisited offered free PSA blood tests to men over 40 throughout November, as prostate cancer is set to become the UK's most common cancer, NHS screening is limited to over-50s on request, and 1 in 8 men, rising to 1 in 4 Black men, will be diagnosed.
On air
A clinical adviser from Youth Revisited and a prostate health case study supported by the company
The result
5 items of coverage reaching 971k, including BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Leeds, Hits Radio West Yorkshire, Greatest Hits Radio Leeds and West Yorkshire.
Bayer wanted to get men talking openly about prostate cancer and able to recognise its symptoms early.
The message
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Every man should learn the symptoms, check for signs, seek medical advice when needed and feel safe to talk about it.
The angle
As Movember moustaches grow, a survey found over half of men (53%) could not identify a weak flow when urinating as a common prostate cancer symptom, and 62% did not know one in eight men will be diagnosed. Six in ten Brits think many men would keep a diagnosis to themselves.
On air
A consultant clinical oncologist, alongside a man sharing his own experience of a prostate cancer diagnosis
The result
17 items of coverage reaching 4.4 million, including Sky News Radio and BBC Radio Lancashire.
YorkTest wanted to raise awareness of YorkTest as a leading provider of food intolerance testing and encourage listeners to find out more.
The message
November focuses on men's health, as men die on average six years earlier than women. New YorkTest research explored men's attitudes to their health and to food intolerance testing.
The angle
During Movember, new research found 21% of UK men think food intolerance is the same as a food allergy, and 13% suspect an intolerance but have not been tested. 71% were unaware of its link to mental health issues such as anxiety.
On air
An expert from YorkTest Laboratories
The result
20 items of coverage reaching 1.4 million, including Made TV Leeds, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and BBC Radio Northampton.
Movember runs through November, when participants grow a moustache, exercise or hold events to raise money for men's health. It began in Melbourne, Australia, in the early 2000s and now funds work on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. It gives producers a reason to cover the subject, and brands with a credible spokesperson a way onto radio and TV.
