Boys are nearly twice as likely as girls to be diagnosed with ADHD, as the condition often presents differently in females and is easier to miss. For ADHD Awareness Month, with NHS waiting lists at 7.7 million, we built Berkeley Psychiatrists' broadcast PR campaign around whether women and girls are missing out on a diagnosis. Two psychiatrists from Berkeley Psychiatrists went on air across a radio day of interviews plus TV, explaining the symptoms, the treatment available and the stigma that causes problems at work, at school and socially. The campaign secured 8 items of radio and TV coverage reaching 2.7 million people, including TalkTV, talkRADIO and BBC Radio London.
Berkeley Psychiatrists wanted to raise awareness of ADHD, its symptoms and the treatment available.
The message
Between 2 and 5% of children and 3 to 4% of adults may have ADHD, most of them undiagnosed, and stigma causes problems in social, work and school settings.

ADHD Awareness Month runs every October. It started in the United States and is backed internationally by groups including ADHD Europe, with UK charities and clinics taking part. Its aim is to share reliable information about ADHD and to challenge the stigma around it. It gives producers a reason to cover the subject, and brands with a credible spokesperson a way onto radio and TV.
