The campaigns

Autism & ADHD, ADHD Awareness Month 2021

The aim
Autism & ADHD wanted to raise awareness of its educational and support work for people with autism and ADHD.
The message
Challenge the stigma of the ADHD label and show the reality of life with ADHD, for the person and everyone around them.
The angle
ADHD Awareness Month, tackling the myths and stigma that delay diagnosis. Around 1.5 million adults in the UK have ADHD but only 120,000 are formally diagnosed, and girls are less likely to be referred because they tend to be less hyperactive than boys.

The result
8 items of coverage reaching 1.3 million, including GB News, BBC Radio Suffolk.

Psychiatry UK wanted to raise awareness of ADHD, its symptoms and the treatment available.
The message
Most adults with ADHD are undiagnosed, and the stigma attached to it causes problems at school, at work and in relationships.
The angle
ADHD Awareness Month and the myths that stop people getting diagnosed, such as the ideas that it only affects children or is caused by poor parenting. An estimated 2.6 million people in the UK could have ADHD, and many women and girls go undiagnosed because they do not show the typical signs.
On air
A psychiatrist from Psychiatry UK and a married couple both recently diagnosed with ADHD
The result
10 items of coverage reaching 2.9 million, including Radio News Hub, London Live, That's TV - York, BBC Radio Lancashire.

The aim
Berkeley Psychiatrists wanted to raise awareness of ADHD, its symptoms and the treatment available.
The message
Between 2 and 5% of children and 3 to 4% of adults may have ADHD, most of them undiagnosed, and stigma causes problems in social, work and school settings.
The angle
For ADHD Awareness Month, with NHS waiting lists at 7.7 million, the story asked whether women and girls are missing out on an ADHD diagnosis. Boys are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed as girls, as ADHD often presents differently in females and is easier to miss.
On air
Two psychiatrists from Berkeley Psychiatrists
