Case study · Pain Awareness Month

Boston Scientific

Women living with chronic pain feel far less understood than men: 41% say their doctor does not understand the full scope of their pain, compared with 25% of men. For Pain Awareness Month, we turned that research among 2,000 Brits living with chronic pain into a story for Boston Scientific, highlighting the impact and stigma of a condition affecting an estimated 10.5 million UK adults. A physician and a patient living with chronic pain went on air across a radio day of interviews plus TV, encouraging anyone in pain for more than 12 weeks to speak to their GP. The campaign secured 8 items of radio and TV coverage reaching 2.5 million people, including TalkTV, talkRADIO and BBC Radio Merseyside.

About Pain Awareness Month

September is Pain Awareness Month. It began in the United States in 2001 and is marked in the UK by charities such as Pain Concern. It aims to improve public understanding of chronic pain and how it can be managed. For brands and charities with something useful to say, it gives radio and TV producers a timely reason to book an interview.
