Case study · New Year

Powerleague

New Year brings health goals, and new research showed why men in particular needed one: 42% of men are obese, rising to 47% by 2035, and men over 50 are nearly twice as likely as women to have undiagnosed diabetes. For Powerleague, we built a broadcast PR campaign around the health benefits of five-a-side football, which, according to university research, is better for you than the gym. A Powerleague spokesperson with 13 years' experience in the football industry went on air for radio interviews, backed by on-air competitions. The campaign secured 24 items of radio coverage, 12 interviews and 12 on-air competitions, reaching 3.2 million listeners, including BBC Radio Lancashire.

About New Year

New Year's Day on 1 January marks the start of the calendar year and is a bank holiday across the UK. The days around it bring stories about resolutions, health goals and fresh starts, and the celebrations on New Year's Eve. Stations plan their coverage of it in advance, which makes it a strong hook for a broadcast PR campaign.
