Case study · Blue Monday

PayPlan

Blue Monday arrives just as the festive splurge catches up with us. New research suggested Brits are bad at dealing with their debt after the festive season, with an alarming number worried about facing up to it and more of us spending when stressed or down. For PayPlan, we turned that into a clear message for Blue Monday: face your debts now rather than later. A psychologist and counsellor, a debt expert from PayPlan and a case study went on air across a radio day of interviews, explaining the risks that avoiding debt carries for emotional and physical wellbeing. The broadcast PR campaign secured 63 items of radio coverage reaching 4.0 million, including BBC Radio Norfolk and BBC Radio Oxford.

About Blue Monday

Blue Monday is the name given to the third Monday in January, promoted as the most depressing day of the year. It began in 2005 as a press release for the travel company Sky Travel and has no scientific basis, but charities now use it to start conversations about mental health. Stations plan their coverage of it in advance, which makes it a strong hook for a broadcast PR campaign.
