Case study · Glaucoma Awareness Week

Glaucoma UK

Glaucoma runs in families: if a close blood relative has it, you are at least four times more likely to develop it. For Glaucoma Awareness Week, we built Glaucoma UK's broadcast PR campaign around that message, reminding listeners that glaucoma affects over 700,000 people in the UK and is often symptomless until 40% of peripheral vision is lost. A spokesperson from Glaucoma UK went on air across a radio day of interviews alongside a father and son who both live with glaucoma, encouraging people to talk to their families and get an eye test every two years. The campaign secured 9 items of radio coverage reaching 2.6 million, including Greatest Hits Radio Bucks, Beds & Herts.

About Glaucoma Awareness Week

Glaucoma Awareness Week is run by the UK charity Glaucoma UK. It encourages people to learn about glaucoma and have regular eye tests, as around half of the estimated 1.1 million people in the UK with the condition do not know they have it. It gives producers a reason to cover the subject, and brands with a credible spokesperson a way onto radio and TV.
