The aim
Surfshark wanted to be a trusted expert voice on data breaches around Safer Internet Day and help listeners stay safer online.
The message
Data breaches directly affect everyday UK internet users, often without them realising. Online safety does not need technical expertise, just awareness: simple steps like better password habits can materially reduce the risk.
The angle
Surfshark's annual study ranks the UK sixth in the world for data leaks, with 8.2 million accounts breached in 2025, around 16 every minute. The average Brit has now had their data exposed in breaches six times since 2004.

Safer Internet Day began in Europe in 2004 and is led in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, a partnership of Childnet, the Internet Watch Foundation and SWGfL. It promotes safe and positive use of technology for children and young people. The 2027 theme is digital wellbeing. Stations plan their coverage of it in advance, which makes it a strong hook for a broadcast PR campaign.
