Case study · Safer Internet Day

Trend Micro

What children share online is not always what they want their parents to see. Research for Safer Internet Day found 42% of children shared chats they did not want parents to see, and 1 in 16 parents had found details of their 10 to 16 year olds' drinking, smoking and sex lives online. We built Trend Micro's broadcast PR campaign around those findings and put an online security expert from Trend Micro on air across a radio day of interviews to talk parents through them. The campaign secured 16 items of radio coverage reaching 1.4 million, including BBC Radio Kent.

About Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day began in Europe in 2004 and is led in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, a partnership of Childnet, the Internet Watch Foundation and SWGfL. It promotes safe and positive use of technology for children and young people. The 2027 theme is digital wellbeing. Stations plan their coverage of it in advance, which makes it a strong hook for a broadcast PR campaign.
