Case study · National Sock Day

SockShop

Socks have a bad reputation as a Christmas present, but a YouGov poll showed they are better loved than people think: almost 8 in 10 (79%) Brits would be at least somewhat happy to receive a pair. On National Sock Day, we built SockShop's broadcast PR campaign around that finding, which ranked socks third among well-received gifts with bad reputations. The director of SockShop went on air across a radio day of interviews to make the case for socks as the unsung hero of the wardrobe and a thoughtful, practical gift. The campaign secured 12 items of radio coverage reaching 1.8 million listeners on BBC Radio Norfolk, BBC Radio Suffolk and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

About National Sock Day

National Sock Day falls on 4 December. It was started in 2016 by the US sock company Pair of Thieves to celebrate socks and to encourage donations of socks to people in need, and is now also marked by UK brands. For brands and charities with something useful to say, it gives radio and TV producers a timely reason to book an interview.
