Case study · Debt Awareness Week

Debt Free Advice

Money worries can affect anyone. Debt Free Advice has seen a 50% rise in people seeking help on last year, with gas and electricity bill debt up 47% and 44%, and 22% of those seeking advice now relying on a food bank. For Debt Awareness Week, we turned those figures into a timely question for broadcasters: does the Chancellor's Spring Budget support go far enough? The chief executive of Debt Free Advice went on air across a radio day of interviews plus TV, urging anyone struggling to seek free, independent advice early, without fear of judgement. The campaign secured 11 items of radio and TV coverage reaching 2.1 million people, including London Live, BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Radio Tees.

About Debt Awareness Week

Debt Awareness Week is run by StepChange Debt Charity and has taken place each year since 2014. It aims to tackle the stigma around debt, get people talking about money worries and encourage anyone struggling to seek free advice early. It gives producers a reason to cover the subject, and brands with a credible spokesperson a way onto radio and TV.
