Divorce does not have to mean going to court, yet just 14% would choose mediation. For Family Mediation Week, we built Mills & Reeve's broadcast PR campaign around the case for alternatives: a children's case now takes around 45 weeks in court, and 42% say cost of living pressures could make divorce unaffordable. A family lawyer from Mills & Reeve's family and children team went on air across a radio day of interviews, explaining how mediation or using one lawyer for both partners can be a more amicable, quicker and less expensive way to agree the terms. The campaign secured 14 items of radio coverage reaching 3.5 million, including Sky News Radio, BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Essex and BBC Radio Norfolk.

About Family Mediation Week
Family Mediation Week is run by the Family Mediation Council, the body that sets standards for family mediators in England and Wales. It explains how mediation can help separating couples agree arrangements for children and money without going to court. The 2026 week ran from 26 to 30 January. For brands and charities with something useful to say, it gives radio and TV producers a timely reason to book an interview.
