Case study · Tyre Safety Month

Protyre

Badly worn and defective tyres killed 194 people on UK roads in a single year, 11% of road deaths, and up to 20% of vehicles have at least one illegal or badly worn tyre. Many drivers are unaware of the danger, so for Tyre Safety Month we helped Protyre teach listeners how to check their tread depth and pressures. Two tyre experts went on air across a radio day of interviews, offering expert advice on what to check. The broadcast PR campaign secured 17 items of radio coverage reaching 1.5 million, including BBC Radio Norfolk.

About Tyre Safety Month

Tyre Safety Month is an annual October campaign run by the UK charity TyreSafe, supported by tyre makers, retailers and vehicle manufacturers. It has run since 2010 and urges drivers to check tyre pressure, tread depth and condition, and warns about the risks of defective and worn tyres. Stations plan their coverage of it in advance, which makes it a strong hook for a broadcast PR campaign.
